For a period of nearly 15 years, M.A.G.I.C. - Music Aimed At Growth In Christ
was the Contemporary Christian Music Group at Advent Lutheran Church in Boca
Raton, Florida. The group averaged about 30 members including singers, guitar,
bass, keyboard, sax, flute, harmonica, tambourine, and drums. Over the years,
well over a hundred people were involved in M.A.G.I.C. in one way or another.
Although M.A.G.I.C. was a ministry of Advent Lutheran Church, many of the
members were from other churches. Nearly a dozen different churches were
represented in M.A.G.I.C.
This diversity helped the members of M.A.G.I.C. to get to know Christians from
other churches and enhanced the group's outreach
potential.
M.A.G.I.C. was always looking for opportunities to extend their outreach
ministry to audiences of un-churched people. The group went "on the road" to
perform a concert about once a month.
M.A.G.I.C. played at places such as Town Center (the local Mall), the Bounty
Lounge (a bar), Mizner Park (a shopping plaza), Glades Correctional Institute
(a prison), and many area churches.
Also, M.A.G.I.C. provided musical inspiration for Advent Lutheran Church at
special services such as Easter and Christmas. There was usually at least one
M.A.G.I.C. concert at Advent each year.
In addition to being an outreach ministry, M.A.G.I.C. was also an inreach
ministry. The members care about each other, encouraged each other, and
lift each other up in prayer.
As it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 "There is a time for everything, and a
season for every activity under heaven". The time for M.A.G.I.C. has come and
has now gone. It has now been several years since M.A.G.I.C.'s music was
last heard.
Now it's time for a M.A.G.I.C. Reunion!
The Reunion was held on Saturday,
March 6th, 2004 at Advent Lutheran Church. Around 30 previous M.A.G.I.C.
members attended. We told stories of the good old days and watched a video
(put together by Ken Ellis) featuring highlights of a number of M.A.G.I.C.
concerts. We saw the Blues Brothers again, listened to Julie's RAP, and heard
some of Don's OLD jokes. Sunday morning, March 7th, M.A.G.I.C. sang the
Gospel Medley at the 8:30AM and 10:00AM services at Advent.

Lets start with a letter from Anne W:
FUN FUN FUN!
What a pleasure to see you all under such great circumstances!
A BIG
THANK-YOU
to Sally K who organized the whole MAGIC Reunion and did a great job at it!
Sally,
There's No Doubt About It
, there was
MAGIC In the Air
,
. . . and . . . we had
Fun Fun Fun!
It meant so much to me personally that you all were a part of it on either
Saturday when we were able to
Look What God Is Doing
in everybody's lives, or Sunday, with those lucky people in church who got to
once again
Listen to the MAGIC!
Although some of you weren't there in body, I know you were there in Spirit,
even though it broke our
Achy Breaky Hearts
that you weren't there in person!
Cindy, Amy, Debi, and Al, did it cross your mind or, better yet,
Cross Your Heart
, how glad we all were that you made the special effort to travel so far to be
a part of our special reunion?
And, Anne M (AJ) and Jean J, what a blessing that both of you did not let
physical challenges stop you from coming to celebrate with us
The Great Adventure
we all had together in MAGIC!
The food was delicious, the sharing and fellowship was both funny and touching,
and all that MAGIC memorabilia was a reminder to me, that MAGIC's special
calling, through all it's different styles of music, was to cross age,
religious, and musical taste barriers and communicate God's
Love in Any Language
. I guess you could say, that's
The Reason We Sing
.
And, ...Ken and Dawn, you were absolute
Angels
for putting together that video for us!
That video was
Some Kinda Wonderful!
It particularly meant so much to me to hear how MAGIC meant so much to all of
you, how God used MAGIC to grow you spiritually and draw you
Back to His Heart
, and how you continue to
Give It Up
for God and realize what an
Awesome God
He truly is as a result of MAGIC having once been an important part of your
lives.
Much love to you all!
Keep in touch!
Keep sharin' the
Hope of the Gospel!
Don't let
Dem Bones
of yours be strangers!
Hope to see you all
Soon and Very Soon!
"Ya, Know"
,
I Heard It Through the Grapevine
that Sally is already planning the next reunion!
Sally,
Could It Be?
If not,
Snap to It!
